In my work with feng shui, I notice that most people are most interested in two things: love and money. Last month I focused on our workspaces, so this month as we enter the month of love, we will take a closer look at how to attract love into your life and into your current relationship.

In working with single clients looking for love, I’ve run into some commonalities with regards to traditional feng shui Do’s and Don’ts. This list is compiled from my experience of working with single clients wanting a relationship. These, of course, would also apply to those in a relationship looking to deepen their commitment.

Here we go…

1. Don’t have a teddy bear on your bed.

2. Don’t have only one nightstand.

3. Don’t have one side of your bed up against the wall.

4. Don’t have your old yearbooks on a bookshelf in your bedroom.

5. Don’t have images of single people or single animals in your bedroom (or anywhere in your home).

6. Don’t have a mirror across from your bed.

7. Don’t have love letters, memorabilia, or any reminder of your ex in your bedroom (or anywhere in your home).

8. Don’t have decor items grouped in 1′s, 3′s, or 5′s. For example, don’t have one candle. Instead, have two candles grouped together. Same with pillows on your bed, etc.

9. Don’t have pictures of family members in your bedroom.

10. Don’t have trinkets, collections, furniture, or anything else from your childhood in your bedroom.

On January 23, 2012, our friends in the East, will be ringing in the Chinese New Year. It is the most celebrated holiday for half of the globe which marks the beginning of the new Lunar cycle.

According to Chinese Astrology and Feng Shui, each year is marked with an animal of the Chinese zodiac as well as an Element.

2012 is the year of the Water Dragon.

What does this mean for you and our planet as a whole?

Unfortunately, we have already seen some the negative effects of the Water Dragon with the recent cruise ship disaster. 2012 is not a good year to take a cruise or other water activities out of the norm. Maritime disasters, floods, leaks, or any other calamities relating to water will be on the rise.

The Water Dragon is not all bad though. Water can be a really good thing when channeled appropriately. The Water Element rules our creativity. Water also feeds the Wood element which is about growth and expansion. That means 2012 will be a great year to expand and grow your creativity or a creative business venture. This Water Dragon is also Yang, which brings in movement, action, changes, and even more growth.

Last year, we looked at rules and boundaries with the Metal Rabbit. We tested them and eventually broke them – just in time to go with the flow with the Water Dragon. It will certainly be a year to go with the flow. In Western astrology, Water and Air signs will have an easier time with this energy, while Earth and Fire signs will be a bit more challenged.

With Water being the prevalent energy for the year, it will be important to stay grounded and not get swept away with the tide. This is balanced with going with the flow of the waves. Body-centered movements such as yoga, tai chi, qi gong, will be especially important to find this balance.

The Dragon’s personality is powerful, courageous, determined, enthusiastic and always lucky. Draw on and embody this energy throughout the year.

To welcome in the Yang Water Dragon into your life this 2012, celebrate the Chinese way: clean your home, smudge it, invite friends and family over for a meal, give presents. Say goodbye to old grudges or stagnation from 2011 and wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Happy 2012 to all!

Generation X – also known as the Lost Generation – includes those of us born generally between 1963-1983. Another way to determine if you are a Generation Xer is if the song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman moves you in some way.

You see since the calendar turned 2012, I have heard Fast Car play four times. The Universe speaks to me in two ways: numbers and songs. When I hear a song successively, I know there is a message in it for me. (For example, every time I hear Time of Our Lives by Green Day, I know major change is coming. And every time I hear I Can See Clearly Now, I know angels surround me and something really good is coming my way.)

So what is the message in Fast Car?

It’s a message for our generation.

Think back to when you heard this song in 1988. For me, I was in high school and probably like you this song struck a deep cord within me.

We all wanted to get a fast car and fly away.

We wanted more from life.

We wanted a ticket to go anywhere.

We all wanted the feeling that I belong.

I had a feeling that I could be someone, be someone, be someone.

In the opinions of Baby Boomers, Gen Xers weren’t really supposed to amount to much. And, in fact, our generation’s traits were (and still are) frowned upon by the BBs (i.e. our parents). Unlike the work horses and security-minded Baby Boomers, we value our individuality, time with family and friends (as opposed to work), and defying authority. We want more than what we witnessed growing up. We feel like it’s our birthright (as Gen Xers can be a little arrogant too.)

This is a call to all Gen Xers: Our time is now.

This is the time we have been waiting for and we are who we have been waiting for.

Whatever you dreamt of doing or whoever you dreamt of being in 1988 when you listened to Fast Car, the time is now to realize that dream. We live in a time (and an economy) where our creativity can flourish, where we don’t have to put on a suit and tie (or pantyhose) and report to our boss.

It’s time to get a fast car and fly.

What will your fast car be?

For inspiration, listen below…

And come fly with me…

It is customary in Chinese traditions to start the New Year off by cleaning the home, physically and energetically, similar to our spring cleaning. The start of the New Year is a great time to give your home an energetic space clearing so that you can start the new year off on a clean slate – breaking old habits and allowing space for changes to take place.

What Makes Up the Energy In Your Home?

Every object and, of course, person in your home has its own distinct energy field. So while your kitchen table isn’t conscious, it’s energy is still very much alive and emitting an energy field. And each time you sit down at that table, your energy field and its energy field converge and influence one another. In addition to objects in your home, the empty space, i.e. air, is all energy. This energy is also referred to as chi in Feng Shui. And how the chi flows through a space is the crux of Feng Shui.

Other factors that affect how the energy flows through your space are emotions or trauma emitted by the occupants, floor plan layout, clutter, and the lighting.

Do I Need a Space Clearing?

For the most part, if you have never had your space cleared, then you most likely need to. If for no other reason, a space clearing is necessary to clear out the energy of previous owners. Yes, energy can stagnate for years! And, in fact, it can get stronger if the same energy is put into it. The phrase, “if these walls could talk,” is very true. I find that a good time to space clear my home is right after I have cleaned it.

Another reason to clear your home is to dismantle old patterns. Like our body, our home contains our mental and emotional patterns. If you want to make changes in your life, start or, at least, include the home. We spend lots of time and money on self-help methods for ourselves. But it we continue to live and breathe the same patterns in our home day after day, it is difficult to make any permanent change in our lives.

How Do I Space Clear?

The most common method for space clearing is done with sage – known as Sage Smudging. A sage stick or bundle is pretty easy to come by at most natural food stores and metaphysical shops. Light the end of the stick and waft around the room. Pay particular attention to corners where energy tends to stagnate. Also add your thoughts and intentions for clearing the space. If inhaling smoke is not good for you or you do not like the pungent smell of burning sage, you can try my Smudge Spray. It is a blend of essential oils in a rosewater base that not only clears the energy, but raises the vibration of the space. For more information on the Smudge Spray, click here.

Space clearing can usually be done successfully by the homeowner, unless there is something unusual going on in the home, such as an entity, illness, or patterns that cannot be broken for the occupant. In those cases, it best to have your space professionally cleared.

In 2006 I bought a bungalow that changed my life. At the time I was transitioning from practicing law full-time to the healing arts. I was teaching yoga and starting an energy healing practice when this house awoken me to what I now call – the Mind Body Home connection.

There is an integral relationship to our Self and our home. I now do yoga workshops where participants experience this relationship on the yoga mat. This holistic perspective has been the focus of my work for the past five years. And now I am putting it all together in this upcoming Challenge! Join me for this 27-Day Challenge to Transform Your Mind Body and Home!

All that is necessary to participate is Email access and the desire to make positive changes in your life!

For the Challenge, you will receive an email in your Inbox each morning with your daily challenge. Each day for 27 days you will have a specific instruction with a particular theme pertaining to the mind, the body, and the home. All three will be related in some way so that you can take a wholistic approach to balancing, transforming, and harmonizing your life.

You will also connect with others during the challenge through a Facebook Group (optional, of course).

At the end of the 27 days, submit your testimonial for a drawing for a **FREE KINDLE**

It was 2004 when I first heard about the 2012 predictions. My first thought was I will wait until after 2012 to move to the West Coast. Not only because I would escape the “Big One” hitting the West Coast, but also because my Nashville property would be worth a mint – it would be oceanfront property!

Not too unlike most people in 2004, I was counting the amount of money I would make off my house being in a trendy neighborhood as home prices were soaring. In 2006, I sold out smiling all the way to the bank. In 2007, I arrogantly re-entered the real estate market. In 2010, I humbly sold my house – this time with my tail between my legs.

In 2004, I was also an unhappy attorney trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing in this world. I knew it wasn’t sitting behind a desk moving papers around. I knew on an intuitive level I could help people in some way. It was a visceral feeling.

As one teacher in 2006 told me, “You have to figure out what you don’t want to do in order to know what you do want.” Upon our first meeting, he followed that up with, “I see you’ve done that.” He understood my frustration.

As the years went by, my purpose was slowly unfurling itself. I’ve had many trials, errors, wrong turns, and scenic routes over the last decade. But, finally I have arrived. I have arrived at my passion, my purpose, my heart. (Not that we ever fully “arrive”, but “arrive” for now.) I have found the the way in which I can most help people and our planet.

What does this have to do with 2012?

While I still have my sights on moving to the West Coast after 2012, it has little to do with 2012 predictions and certainly nothing to do with profiting. You see, what I have learned since 2004 is that anything of success must come from the heart. I am not the only one who was humbled by the real estate market, the stock market, or the job market. We have all been humbled in some way over the last several years. To be humbled means a surrender of the ego.

As 2012 dawns, we have all arrived. I am blown away everyday witnessing the kindness, compassion, and love I see around me and on our Planet. This is what 2012 is about.

I see this year being a year of transitioning into a new era. All that is no longer of a certain vibration that hasn’t fallen away will – from our faulty economic system to dictatorships. Our Planet as a whole will have arrived. By the end of 2012 a new day will have dawned.

Now is the time you have been waiting for. It is time to make your dreams real. The time is now. There is space for all of our dreams to come true – afterall they all depend on each others. We are laying down the new grid for this new world. I have big plans. But I need you to have big plans too.

So get to work. The Universe is behind all of us.

2012 will be magical! That is my prediction.

Introspection. Looking Back. Living and Learning.

Ultimately though… Gratitude.

I want to point out that this post is mostly for my introspective benefit. But if you are so inclined and interested, by all means, keep reading.

The New Year started out with a large statement as my partner and I visited the Big Apple for New Year’s Eve. Arriving just in time for New York’s major blizzard, I was dreaming of being on the beach with a bit of regret. Nevertheless, we had a ball shopping, eating pizza and pretzels, getting lost, riding the subway, Times Square, and all things New York. In hindsight, this trip was a foreshadowing of what was to come for the year ahead.

At the stroke of midnight and as the calendar page turned to 2011, it was if all of my karma of 2010 had been cleared and erased. I had passed the test. It was time for my soul to move on. Our home that was the source of most of this karma closed in mid-January. Two weeks later, I received one of those phone calls you wait your entire life to get.

It was my publisher’s Managing Editor.

“We want to take your book out of its current series, re-design it, re-name it, and re-release it. Would you be okay with that?,” she says.

“Uh. yeh,” I respond in a deer-caught-in-the-headlights voice.

And from there, Feng Shui Your Life: The Quick Guide to Decluttering Your Home and Renewing Your Life was born. I was already sitting in a pool of gratitude from the house closing. And then this. I was swimming in an ocean of Eureka-level gratitude. And this is why you take the time to look back: Remembering just how taken care of we are. In fact, I remember making a pact with the God-Universe-Divine Source that day: I will never not trust again. I do slip up here and there but for the most part, I was transformed from those successive events.

And so for the rest of Spring 2011, I worked on updates and a book marketing plan. You hear that it takes a couple of years for a book to actually be released. This book took only 6 months! No wonder it holds the energy of transformation. It is a Quick Guide afterall.

In March, I did take a respite from writing. After spending the Christmas break in the East Coast blizzard, I was jones-ing for the West Coast. We planned a trip to my favorite West Coast destination: Santa Barbara. Palm trees, sunny skies, walking on the beach. I couldn’t wait.

It rained 4 out of 5 days. I think they received around 20 inches – 14 inches in 24 hours. Nevertheless, we had a great time at the yoga studio, drinking almond milk concoctions at the Sojourner Café, watching March Madness at the local watering holes, and splashing around State Street.

In April, I officially incorporated and launched my first product: Earth Home Smudge Spray. Later in the year, I put my attorney skills to use and trademarked it. I so love this product and use it for my clients, my home, and hoping for it to be eventually used world-wide to help cleanse the sludge – physically and emotionally – that we humans have created on the Planet.

My book released on July 19th – the same week as my 40th birthday. What a gift.

The Summer went by blissfully. Seriously. It was one of the best summers I’ve had in many years to be quite honest. I was at peace enjoying all things Summer. I love the heat. I love being outdoors. I love walking to the coffeeshop. I love my front porch. It was also in Summer 2011 when I started teaching at a yoga studio again. The Universe had bestowed another gift: teaching at my favorite studio alongside the most amazing teachers.

Nine months after enduring the New York blizzard, I returned to New York City in sunny September for book promotion festivities. I had the honor to do a book signing and workshop at Namaste Bookshop on Union Square followed by a workshop in Brooklyn at Art and Words Gallery. The first trip was my initiation into New York. The second time I felt more than welcome. I made up with New York and hope to be back.

Soon after returning from the publishing hub, I had the urge to dive back into writing. For the next two months, I worked on a book proposal. With my 2011 luck embedded into this project, I am optimistic that it will manifest into my next book. This book encompasses my heart, soul, and my initial, raw inspiration for practicing feng shui. You will hopefully hear more about this in 2012.

As the season changed, temperatures dropped, and the days shortened, my attention shifted to my dog, Horatia (a.k.a Rooney Roo). Within a month she rapidly declined and on December 5th, I had to say goodbye to my best friend of 14 years. She knew me better than anyone. She was my Memory Keeper. She witnessed and was always at my side through the ups and downs over practically my entire adult life. For some reason, over 40 years I had escaped the emotion of grief. I made up for lost time.

At the end of each year, I inevitably say, “I can’t believe how much has happened this year.” I always think that if you told me at the beginning of the year what was to happen, I wouldn’t believe it. And so is the case with 2011. It’s hard to believe how much life can be lived in one year.

And something tells me that 2012 will be one for the ages: globally and personally.

I will be spending New Year’s at the beach this year. Yes, I won out this year and hoping the beach will set the theme for 2012. Many “Thank Yous” to all of my clients and readers over the last year. You keep me real and grounded.

Wishing YOU an amazing holiday season and a Magical 2012!

Peace To All- Tisha

Let’s be honest. When it comes down to it, most of us are primarily interested in two things: love and money. As a feng shui consultant, these two themes dominate the interest and challenges of most of my clients. The good news is that feng shui heavily addresses both of these areas. So let’s talk about the love part and what you can do to improve your love life. This article applies to anyone that is currently in a relationship or single wanting to be in a relationship.

When it comes to love and feng shui, we look at two important areas: the Love Corner of the Bagua Map and, of course, the bedroom. While I am a Bagua Map enthusiast, the bedroom is the more important place to look when it comes to love and is the focus of this article.

Why the bedroom? The bedroom is our private sanctuary. It is the room in which we feel the most vulnerable in – whether we are sleeping, undressing, dreaming, crying, or orgasming. And love is all about being vulnerable. Just allowing a friend or potential romantic partner to see your bedroom comes with some vulnerability. It’s like letting someone see inside you. And it is the room in which we relate most to love and romance.

In my observations, (chronic) single people often unconsciously set up blocks or barriers in their bedroom to ward off intimate relationships. For couples, disharmony is always reflected in their bedroom. Here’s how to avoid those pitfalls and instead amp things up in your love life.

Nightstands – Nothing tells me more about the state of a relationship (or lack thereof) than the nightstands. I have had couples’ relationships shift dramatically simply by changing or adding nightstands. It represents the equality (or lack thereof) in the relationship. Here are the rules. First of all, you want a nightstand on each side of the bed. Secondly, you want the nightstands to be of equal weight. While they don’t have to match per se, they need to be about the same height and density. Third, the lamps on the nightstands should also be of the same height and density. In other words, you don’t want a tall lamp on one side and a small reader clip on the other. Of course, this speaks to aesthetics as well.

Even Numbers – Numbers are our oldest symbols and therefore very impressionable to our collective subconscious mind. For that reason, it is important to have objects placed in pairs. If you have a candle in the room, make it two. If you have pillows on the bed, make it two, four, or six. Resist the urge to have that single decorative pillow beaming out at you each night as you pull the covers down. You want to avoid the number one are even shapes that look like the number one. I was recently in a client’s bedroom where there was a picture of a single, lonely bird, a tall decorative candle sconce that looked like a gigantic number one across from her bed. And, never ever ever have a stuffed animal on your bed. This is a curse for any single woman wanting to have a relationship! For couples, avoid the number three. These numbers could show up in artwork, accessories, or bedding.

Mirrors – Speaking of threes, do not place a mirror across from the bed. If you have to have a mirror in the bedroom at all, have it on a side wall, or better yet, behind a closet door. Having a mirror across from the bed is said to bring a third party into the relationship. In fact, looking back at my life, the only time I ever had a mirror in my bedroom was the bedroom in which I got a divorce. This is a very old feng shui rule that has been passed down for thousands of years. I would not test it!

Paint Colors – The good news here is that there are no devastatingly wrong colors. That being said, there are colors that work better than others. Think warm and sultry! Here are some ideas for paint colors: chocolate, burgundy, dark or light neutrals, a meditative deep blue or plum. You want the color to be warm and calming for sleeping as well, so avoid yellows, bright reds, and primary colors, in general.

Bedding – If you really want to spice things up, then invest in some new bedding and sheets. Go for tactile and texture. Romance is all about the physical pleasures in life. Make your bedding a feast for the senses. Ditch the comforter that you’ve had since college or the one with dog hair all over it. Get some new, clean sheets; a warm cozy, fuzzy blanket; and a comforter or duvet that you could lose yourself in. Add some pillows with varying textures for effect.

And don’t forget to kill the overhead lighting and light some candles. We all look better under candle light!

There have been volumes written about intention and the Law of Attraction. “Setting an intention” has become part of our everyday language. But in our attention deficit culture we’ve forgotten that there’s more to it than good intentions.

You see… I have an intention to have a home with an ocean view. But let’s face it. The fact that I can barely make it through this blog article without getting distracted by Facebook, my phone, Christmas lists, the dishes, today’s ‘ Living Social Escapes, and so forth makes the success of this intention unlikely. Not to mention, it is unlikely that this blog article that I’m trying to focus on will put me closer to my intention anyway. You see, I should probably be writing a book right right now. But instead I am distracted.

If you are like most people, you wear many hats throughout the day – mother, business owner, blogger, social media marketer, partner, and so forth. Our attention is constantly divided between our work, our phone, our kids, and our computer. Let’s face it, our “attention” span has dwindled. Regardless of what your “intention” is.

When I trained to be a Reconnective Healing practitioner, the difference between “attention” and “intention” was magnified. The goal of the healer was bringing “attention” to our hands, not “intention.” Our small mind intention paled in comparison to the frequency channeled when simply bringing our attention to our hands.

What is the difference between Intention and Attention?

Attention = the conscious presence of pure energy; being

Intention = Directing energy from the mind; willing

Attention is the presence of pure energy, where Intention is attempting to direct energy from our mind. And when we get our mind involved, our ego is more likely to jump in as well. When you bring your attention to something, you are bringing your energy, your being, your essence into the present moment.

In our 3-D world, that could equate to time, i.e. the amount of time you put into something. But not always. For example, spending time on something to the point of spinning your wheels is counterproductive. Instead, think about the quality of your focus on a particular task or idea. Also pay attention to what your thoughts are during the task. For example, if I am writing a book, but the whole time I’m thinking that this is a big waste of time or worried about money, then that is not attention. Your attention is elsewhere – not in the present moment. And the book will be a bust because it holds a negative vibration.

The more I play around with energy and manifesting, I believe that “attention” may be as, if not more, important than “intention.” Clearly, the two work nicely together. It’s good to have an intention to know where to put your attention.

Start noticing where and on what you put your focused attention during the day. You will most likely see a direct correlation with the output.

Over Thanksgiving I watched my favorite holiday movie, Elf. At the end, Buddy’s brother reads off of Santa’s List in order to draw more Christmas spirit. As I watched this, I realized how this was our first experience with manifesting what we want in life.

Santa was our magic genie – our benevolent Universe – that delivered what we wanted.

According to the Law of Attraction, we simply state what we want, add emotion, let it go, and don’t worry about the “How.” This is exactly what we did as children with our list for Santa. We stated or wrote down what we wanted – with lots of emotion and passion – and then let it go. Those items we felt the most passionate about, we were more likely to receive.

We didn’t worry about the “How.” We didn’t worry about how Santa would find the exact item, how Santa would find our house, how Santa would fit through the chimney, or how Santa would make to everyone else’s house.

Instead we just trusted.

And we believed in prosperity for everyone.

How did these early experiences shape how you manifest today? Did you get what you wanted for Christmas or did Santa forget about you? And how has this shaped your expectations to this day?

What’s on your Santa’s List for this year?
