A good Morning Routine!

Hi guys, I’m Anna.

Working from home has been the new norm and I felt that I wanted to share something really valuable with you guys, “My morning routine”, which has helped me massively during this time, to stay healthy, happy and productive, in all aspects of my life.

We tend to get up every morning and automatically fall into the same habits and automatic programmes that our body learned from our behaviours over the years that we have lived with it.

Habits are great, for they are there to make our lives easier and help us get things done quick, fast and efficiently. Little do we know though, that those habits can work against us sometimes! Doing the same thing every day - day in and day out - can feel repetitive.

Everyday we wake up and brush our teeth, shower, gulp up our food, and rush out the door for work...well, we rush to the computer in our living rooms or kitchen tables! All to get to places fast … and do it all over again tomorrow in the same way we did it the day before.

"Good habits are hard to form but easy to live with, Bad habits are easy to form but hard to live with." - Brian Tracy, from the book “7 habits of Highly effective people!”- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36072.The_7_Habits_of_Highly_Effective_People

The older and wiser I get the more I'm realizing how much my habits determine how I spend my time and whether or not I achieve my goals. And one of the most important sets of habits that affects how my day plays out is my morning routine.

A good morning routine is one of those massive small thing, that have changed my life for the better and I am here today to share it with you!

So start a new good habit today with a good morning routine!

My morning routine is hours long at this stage for I have been doing it for a while and love it so much that it has become a massive part of my day. 6 am is a great time to wake up… the early bird catches the worm.

DRINK A GLASS OF WATER RIGHT AFTER YOU WAKE UP!

Drinking water first thing in the morning immediately helps rehydrate the body. Drinking a glass or two of water when you wake up is a good way to quickly rehydrate your body, and brain.

Add fresh Lemon:

Adding lemon to your water lowers your body's pH, which is proven to prevent cancers, helps your kidneys, improves skin, helps for weight loss, and aid against digestion, to name a few.

SWITCH OFF:

Having the phone OFF or on airplane-mode in the bedroom is definitely a good habit. We are constantly plugged in, weather at work, TV or the radio, you name it...being constantly bombarded with noise!

It's good to switch it OFF from time to time and make the choice to choose what enters your thoughts in the morning.

You are in control of your life, and I am a firm believer of this...the more positive our thoughts are, starting from a controlled morning, the better you will feel.  Ultimately this will have a positive outcome not only for you, but it will immediately affect the world around you.

Meditate:

Listening to an audio while meditating - sound, music, or guided meditations finding a quiet spot with your headphones, each day at the same time, for 5 - 10 - 15 - 40 mins depending on practice.

Start small but create the habit of doing it every day. Morning Movement:

Practicing Yin Yoga in the morning, helps my body feel better throughout the day.

5-30 minutes depending on what goal you set yourself.

Stretching first thing in the morning can relieve any tension or pain from the day before or from sleeping. It helps increase the blood flow and prepares your body for the day ahead.

Afterwards go for a walk in the fresh air to help me relax and focus before my days work.

Eat a good Breakfast:

A good healthy start to the day is so super important. Eating healthy will not only make you look better but make you feel better too. It's so important to give your body what it needs to start the day. It’s so important to eat the right nutrients and proteins for a healthy brain function.

Various studies have found different benefits of starting your day with breakfast, including:

  • Having a lower BMI

  • Consuming less fat through the day

  • Having better performance

  • You eat less

  • You can prevent type 2 diabetes

    Plan your day:

  • Sit down and create a to-do list and plan out your day in the morning or the night before. To-do lists are a great way to keep track of what is important in life and to keep you focused. It is an essential tool to keep me on track.
